Zebula Lodge | Nico & Madelaine’s Intimate Wedding | Limpopo Bela Bela | Walking with Elephants

The exotic Zebula Lodge and Spa was the perfect backdrop for Nico and Madelaine’s South African Bush Wedding. This special day told the story of their love – adventurous, playful and deeply mesmerising.

It ended on an intimate sunset deck with a bit of bubbly, surrounded by the most precious people in their lives. They shared moments of heartfelt tears and elated bursts of laughter – enough to get my waterworks firing at all cylinders!

When I asked them what they’d like to remember, as they looked back on their photos (in 10 years time). They told me how much family meant to them, and how much fun they have when they’re together. That was part of the reason she wanted a small wedding. Madelaine told me how she’d dreamt of walking with elephants her whole life – and that she wanted to relive the experience every time she looked back on her wedding photos.

It was a hot summer day in Bela Bela (when I say hot, I mean over 40 degrees HOT) under the noon sky, that meant skipping the old cake cutting tradition and smashing creamy muffins instead – like the playful pair that they are.

As I captured them walking beside these ancient creatures, I was transported to a place where magic still exists. A place where the wonders of nature leave you captivated. It’s hard to believe that this wedding venue exists just 2 hours outside of Johannesburg.

There’s nothing better than experiencing wildlife in its natural environment. I was amazed to see how the adventures with elephants team (in bela bela Limpopo) made every effort to ensure that these special creatures are protected and treated with the kindness they deserve. This venue truly is a great venue to have a winter wedding if you’re trying to escape the South African chill (from June – August).

These are just some of my favourite moments from this perfect day…
